The Preservation Division

Person in Charge: SATYAKAM SEN

The Preservation Division is mainly assigned with the duties related to acquiring, cataloguing and maintaining tangible and intangible objects for an ARCHIVE.
MUSIC plans this archive to be a near-complete showcase of Indian Musical Heritage.

THE ARCHIVE ALREADY CONTAINS :

  • Unpublished photographs of Rabindranath Tagore;
  • Unpublished letters by eminent personalities related to Indian Music like Indira Devi Chaudhurani, Sukhendu Goswami and others;
  • An exercise book of Pandit Harihar Sukla containing music lessons;
  • Rare Photographs of some of the greatest exponents of Indian Music ever, including Pandit Ravi Shankar, Santidev Ghosh, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, Rahul Dev Burman and other maestros of the present and the past;
  • Exclusive photographs of Guru Govindan Kutty and Smt. Purnima Ghosh in rehearsal for Guru Govindan Kutty’s last performance on stage;
  • A collection of more than 50 rare gramophone records, including those of Binodini Dasi, Indubala Dasi, Angurbala Dasi, Kamala Jharia, Krishnachandra Dey and many others;
  • Rare and vintage musical instruments.
